In trade, barter is a system of exchange in which participants in a transaction directly exchange goods or services for other goods or services without using a medium of exchange, such as money. Economists distinguish barter from gift economies in many ways; barter, for example, features immediate reciprocal exchange, not one delayed in time. Barter usually takes place on a bilateral basis, but may be multilateral. In most developed countries, barter usually exists parallel to monetary systems only to a very limited extent. Market actors use barter as a replacement for money as the method of exchange in times of monetary crisis, such as when currency becomes unstable or simply unavailable for conducting commerce. No ethnographic studies have shown that any present or past society has used barter without any other medium of exchange or measurement, and anthropologists have found no evidence that money emerged from barter.

I have lived in the Northern Illinois area for my entire life. From Hebron to Loves Park. I attended Belvidere High School then moved to Rockford when I met my husband in 1980. We have 2 children who live in the area too. When we moved to Loves Park I met one of my daughter's friends dad who introduced me to the world of outside sales. I worked for The Polk City Directory for 9 years. We did business to business advertising through the 6 section directory. I was there until they dissolved their salesforce.

Then I was hired on at Yellowbook, now Hibu. I was with them for 16 years where our goal was to help businesses grow through print and online marketing. After a complication from a spine surgery in 2017 I left that job in February 2020. With the economy through this last year it gave me the opportunity to create a new vision for myself and others. It seems like the world has become a very disconnected materialistic place.

My vision is to get back to the ways we used to do business when I was young. (we won't say how long ago that was) Remember doing business with a handshake and a smile? That is a simplified concept of my vision. I would love this website to be the place for bringing businesses and customers together to barter or trade their services. It can be an even exchange or a partial barter and then the remainder paid in cash or card.
